Rufus Teague BBQ Sauce (Condimental / Whole Foods Explorer)

Rufus Teague BBQ Sauce, originally uploaded by ReidCarlberg.

The problem with the season finales being done: the only thing on TV is “Save The Last Dance“. It just moved from the dance scene where everyone in the club gives Julia some space and then she gets jealous and then she goes home with the guy and there’s a hip hop “True Colors” on the radio.

So you see I really had no choice but to rifle through the refrigerator for condiments I haven’t droned on about already.

Enter “Rufus Teague“.

If you’re like me, when you look at the label and read the story (these are hi-res — you can probably head over to flickr for a high res) you’ll probably think Oooh. How clever. Oh and even better you can buy a T-Shirt.

Oh — quick movie update — the cute dancer couple just split up. Apparently society isn’t ready for an black/white dancer combination. Such drama.

Where was I?

Oh yeah. But don’t let the schtick stand in your way. This is pretty good sauce. It’s another $6 item but a little goes a long way. I’ve had it just on chicken so far. Mmmm. Tasty. This particular one isn’t ridiculously thick and does not contain high fructose corn syrup (just corn syrup).

If the only sauce you really like is Sweet Baby’s, this is probably not for you. (Sweet Baby’s — the life enhancer. Or so the website says. Really? REALLY?)

Thumbs up on the Rufus Teague. Worth at least $5 of those $6.

Maya Kaimal Vindaloo Fresh Simmer Sauce (Condimental / Whole Foods Explorer)

I’m no vindaloo expert, but this Maya Kaimal is a VERY flavorful little sauce. Curry, onions, etc. I added some chicken and put it over the standard issue ready to microwave trader joe’s brown rice. The beans? I dunno. An unlikely pairing I’ll admit. But we had them in the fridge and were low on supplies.

Thumbs up. It’s in the $6 category. You can buy it on iGourmet/Amazon instead but it will cost $8 for three plus $14 shipping. $14 for shipping???? Really.

Makes we want to expand on the Burrito Baby theme with a segment called The Vindaloo Report. Coming soon to a YouTube near you.

Also mildly amusing if you happen to be a geek: the default email for their domain whois settings is @verizon.net.  Really?  At least it’s not something like “domains@conglomeratefoods.com”.

Whole Pantry “Sicilian Pesto” (Condimental / Whole Foods Explorer)

So this is pretty good. It’s a jar, not refrigerated, not as oily as the “fresh” basil stuff. (Interestingly enough, if you open it but don’t use it right away you are supposed to cover it with oil). It is thicker than I’ve usually had, way cheesier. And not ridiculously expensive — like $4 or something.

Thumbs up. There’s another one of these — red pepper — that I have purchased but not tried just yet.

Just dreamed about Twittering….

  • Just dreamed about Twittering. At a car rental place with SLOW service. The clerk looked at me and said “You’re twittering this?” (see p 2) #
  • p 2: and I says yes–but in fairness I would have twittered if it were good service, too. it was a rainy walk to space E12. (see p 3) #
  • p 3: the car had 8665 miles on it. I know this only from looking closely at the tag on the key as I exited the wal mart style rental shop. #
  • Twitter, my friend: you are a virus. #
  • @popejephei ok so twitter is maybe not a virus. maybe it’s more like a mucous membrane. http://tinyurl.com/53nrdh (1st! Woot!) #
  • My average cost per metra ride was going up-it’s now dropped with these last two Metra Lottery Wins!! HOORAY ah the small joys of commuting. #
  • Frustrating day. But the frustration punctuated with a **really** good steak au poivre. Mmmmmmm. #
  • Oh shit. There’s no american idol tonight. #
