I have a bunch of domain names leftover from back in the day.  Why do I bring this up now?  Because they’re set to renew or cancel on Aug 19 and GoDaddy wants my new credit card info NOW DAMMIT NOW!

How many do I have?  Well, there are six renewing that day — I actually used one, the rest were non-.com TLD pointers — and a bunch more that were never anything more than knee jerk reactions.

Holy crap: I have a total of 17 domain names.

Here’s the idea: rather than let the domains go to whatever “Info when you want it” generic BS search screen, why not a domain name charity that a) you can donate your old domains to and b) will then provide these on a leased basis to charitable orgs?

The idea is probably a non-starter (“Charity devoted to reading? Great! How about PizzasRated.com?”) but whatever.  It would be better than the whole fivesticks.us now points to a porn site alternative.  Maybe there’s a refinement to the idea that would would.
