I will now start listening to The Beatles and The Grateful Dead

I turn 40 later this month.  Because of this, I will now start listening to The Beatles and The Grateful Dead.

Why?  Or maybe, why haven’t I so far?

The why I haven’t so far is easy: I was too busy listening to great bands like The Coolies and The Dead Milkmen and Fuzzbox (look — an official webpage!).  I didn’t have time or budget.  

And, let’s face it, it was more entertaining for me to simply hold them in disdain.  It got a good reaction — either an eyebrow raise or a short but heated argument.  Good fun, good fun.

So then the harder question: why? And moreover, why now?

Call it curiosity.  Call it a budding if grudging respect. Whatever.  

It’s at least time to give it a shot.

So if you have any recommendations for where to start on either of them, please let me know.  I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.

PS Yes I now suddenly want to reacquire these even though I put some effort into getting rid of them just last year.
